Before you install
You need WoW installed on your Mac, a ConsolePort release for that game client, and a controller that can send input to the game. Keep a keyboard and mouse available for initial setup and recovery.
For a physical controller, follow Apple’s connection instructions and your controller maker’s instructions. For Thumble, check the phone app availability and Mac requirements first. A receiver download alone does not give you phone controls. If you are still deciding on an input method, compare phone controls with a physical gamepad.
1. Install into the WoW client you actually launch
- Open the CurseForge app and select World of Warcraft.
- Choose the exact WoW installation you play. If it is missing, use game detection or add that installation in CurseForge.
- Find ConsolePort by MunkDev in Get More Addons. Check the file’s supported game flavor and version before installing it.
- Restart WoW after the first installation. At character selection, open AddOns and enable ConsolePort for that installation.
If ConsolePort is absent from the AddOns list, confirm the installation path before changing controller settings. An addon installed into another client cannot configure the game you have open. Follow the missing-addon checks if the list still does not show it. For Classic, use the release compatibility checklist.
2. Connect your controller
With a physical gamepad, connect it to the Mac using its supported wired or Bluetooth route. Then follow ConsolePort’s controller setup in WoW. macOS recognizing a controller is a useful first check, but you must also confirm it works in your game client.
With Thumble, follow the receiver and phone setup, then return here for the in-game bindings. The built-in controller requires no AI agent or cloud account. The phone apps are being prepared for public release. The iPhone workflow guide explains the separate phone and Mac roles.
The optional Thumble companion addon is separate from ConsolePort. Its documented Classic Era release helps with Mac gamepad recovery and ConsolePort label updates. Choose a matching release rather than installing it into an unsupported client.
3. Set actions and modifier layers
Use ConsolePort’s in-game configuration to choose the actions you want on the base buttons and on shoulder or trigger combinations. Start with movement, camera, jump and a small number of familiar actions before filling every slot.
Check the character you are configuring. An unexpected spell may come from a different binding or active modifier layer. Changing the phone’s label does not change the action assigned inside WoW.
Release the modifier between tests. Verify the base button, the modified button and the return to the base layer as separate steps. Use the beginner’s binding worksheet to plan the layout before filling more slots.
4. Verify your setup in a quiet place
Use the five checks in the Thumble setup guide: move and stop, look around, use an action, hold a modifier and act, then navigate a menu. The checks also provide a useful checklist when using a physical controller.
These are checks you perform, not automatic compatibility detection. Thumble’s offline practice only exercises the phone controls; it cannot confirm that WoW received them.
If setup stops working
Start with the symptom you can observe. A connection failure, a wrong binding and an old phone label need different checks.
| Your next task | Start here |
|---|---|
| ConsolePort is absent | Check the installation and addon folders |
| Phone cannot connect | Check the phone-to-Mac connection |
| Phone connected, no game input | Check controller detection in WoW |
| A button triggers the wrong action | Check bindings and active modifiers |
| Camera or stick direction is wrong | Check game camera and touch axes |
| Actions work, phone labels are stale | Check the saved snapshot and selected controller |
Thumble stopped responding after a receiver restart
Follow the current receiver recovery instructions. If the matching Thumble addon is installed, release the controls and leave combat before checking discovery. Keep this recovery path separate from Bluetooth troubleshooting for physical controllers.
Where do I install updates?
Return to My Addons in CurseForge for the same client. Read the release’s compatibility details before updating. Recheck movement, camera, actions and modifiers after a change.
